As a Lead Contract Analyst in the Sponsored Program Services Contracting department, this position will work with the SPS Contracting team and University offices to negotiate complex agreements. Enhance the University’s strategic partnerships with industrial and governmental entities. Form and lead cross-departmental task groups to develop process improvements, negotiate agreements, and maintain contractual relationships. Ensure smooth and responsive service to external partners who provide funding and other types of support and to faculty members in support of the University’s research mission.

This position is 100% remote.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Form task groups to support the development, negotiation, and maintenance of significant and essential contracts with current and prospective University strategic partners
  • Receive assignments from a variety of sources, including the Office of Industry Partnerships, Executive Vice President for Research, Purdue Research Foundation, faculty members and Sponsored Program Services staff
  • May become the primary point of contact for external partners needing contractual support
  • Select task group members on an as needed basis from various sources, including Pre-Award, Post Award, Office of Industry Partnerships Alliance Managers, Office of Legal Counsel and faculty, to best support communication and information needed to resolve issues, develop mutual agreement, and bring contracts to a close
  • Coordinate and lead meetings and teleconferences to ensure work is completed smoothly and to provide strategic partner with responsiveness
  • Provide guidance and communication updates to strategic partners, faculty and staff regarding contract issues and University processes

  • Attend Contracting team meetings, SPS team meetings, and professional development/training activities
  • Assist in monitoring contract procedures and methods and participate in the development of contracting guidelines
  • Contribute process improvement recommendations to ensure efficiency
  • Maintain a broad knowledge of Federal and State regulations, and University policies, and apply this knowledge (particularly in the areas of Intellectual Property and Contract Law)
  • Coordinate and/or assist with other activities as requested by the Director of Contracting and Contracts Managers

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • Six (6) years of experience in contract negotiation and/or paralegal services, preferably including experience in negotiating contractual terms
  • An equivalent amount of education and experience may be considered
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, planning, problem-solving, organizational, project management and customer service skills
  • Ability to analyze, interpret and implement University policies and procedures
  • Ability to influence and build working relationships among a diverse workforce at all levels
  • Learning orientation to changing technology impacting business processes
  • Ability to maintain a broad knowledge of Federal and State laws and regulations and University policies and business practices
  • Ability to use creativity and strong initiative to identify which contract instrument applies to a variety of situations
  • Ability to provide exceptional customer service to University and external customers
  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to evaluate and distribute incoming requests quickly and appropriately
  • Ability to make administrative and procedural decisions on sensitive, confidential issues
  • Personal computer and related software skills, e.g., word processing, spreadsheet, database, Internet, Windows OS, etc.

Preferred:

  • Experience in a higher education environment
