Summary of Opportunity:

The Director, Executive Communications and Engagement is a member of the Communications Department at Big Brothers Big Sisters of America (BBBSA). This role reports directly to the Chief Communications Officer and is responsible for planning, developing, and overseeing effective internal and external messaging and communication strategies for the CEO and other key executives that support the mission and vision of BBBSA.

The Director, Executive Communications and Engagement will develop, execute, and update CEO executive engagement plans to include employee engagement, thought leadership and external opportunities. They will also partner with subject matter experts to develop narratives and key messages, collaborate with peers to create, and execute program milestone communications plans and support other projects as needed.

Travel:  <25-30%

Location: Full-time East Coast Remote preferred, but open to other locations for the right talent who aligns to an East Coast work schedule

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Leads conceptualization and execution of compelling, strategic executive communications for internal and external audiences nationally, including speeches, talking points, video development, webcasts, award nominations, etc.
  • Develops and executes strategic, targeted and impactful executive visibility and communication plans that support the organization's thought leadership and PR strategies.
  • Directs outstanding writing and content development that elevates the BBBSA brand and supports the mission, vision and values of the organization while capturing the executive voice in a genuine, engaging way.
  • Collaborates effectively across the organization, building and maintaining strong relationships with leadership, directors, managers and staff to direct the execution of executive communication messaging and initiatives.
  • Orchestrates communications delivery through a variety of mediums, including print, digital, video and live events, working with appropriate partners internally and external vendors.
  • Partners in the development and execution of a cohesive social media strategy for the CEO that effectively leverages existing social media properties and consistently evaluates new opportunities to engage social media audiences.
  • Develop and monitor key metrics to measure reach and impact of communications to identify areas of success, opportunity and to inform senior leadership decision-making.
  • Partners with internal, external, and marketing teams to develop storylines and support executive readiness to engage in media relations, when appropriate.
  • Ensures alignment and consistency with organizational strategy and execution.
  • Manages related and other duties as assigned in support of department and business needs.

  • Manages related and other duties as assigned in support of department and business needs.

Education & Related Work Experience

Education Level: Bachelor's degree OR related experience equivalency. 

Years of Related Work Experience: A minimum of 8-10 years of relevant experience, preferably in executive level writing.
